The Baofeng UV-28M is a multi-band handheld for licensed amateur operators, combining wide coverage with a clear, menu-driven interface. It transmits on the 144-148 MHz VHF (2 meter), 222-225Mhz (1.25 meter) and 420-450 MHz (70cm) ham bands at up to 10W of power. It can also receive on multiple bands, including FM broadcast 76–108 MHz (RX), AM airband 108–136 MHz, NOAA Weather Radio channels for the U.S. and Canada, 136–174 MHz, VHF2 220–260 MHz, 350–390 MHz and 400–520 MHz. Selectable frequency steps provide precise tuning across bands.

The UV-28M has a bright 1.77" TFT display, full keypad, and open menu system to make programming straightforward, from naming channels to setting repeater offsets. Store up to 999 memories and monitor them efficiently with dual watch and dual reception. The radio offers channel and frequency scanning with multiple modes, while one-touch frequency search and easy pairing/grouping let you clone channel configurations for faster field programming.

The UV-28M offers on-air control and convenience. Choose high or low power, enable VOX for hands-free operation, activate Busy Channel Lockout and use the configurable Time-Out Timer to manage traffic. Ten squelch levels help tame weak-signal noise. DTMF encoding and manual dialing expand control options. An end-of-transmission roger beep is available when needed. A power-on password helps protect access, and keypad beeps plus programmable display illumination refine feedback. Extras include an LED flashlight, stopwatch and alarm, a battery-save function, and a high-capacity lithium-ion battery for extended shifts. The Kenwood-style (K1) two-pin accessory port ensures broad compatibility with headsets and speaker mics.
