Handheld CB radios provide portability that is missing from standard, installed CB radios. With a handheld CB, you can easily move the radio from one vehicle to another and even use it without the need for a vehicle. Most hand held CB radios will include a rechargeable battery for use while on the go, but also include a 12 volt adapter to allow you to get power from the cigarette lighter while in the car.

The downside to a handheld CB is that the range is generally not as good as with an installed model. Installed CB radios usually connect to a comparatively large fixed antenna, which will deliver much better range than the fixed or small magnet mount antennas that are typically included with a handheld model.
