The Cobra XRSR9G offers the truly innovative design of the XRS-R7, and adds an industry first GPS locator with red light/speed camera database. Cobra has worked hard to build an up to date database of all fixed red light and speed cameras in the United States. The XRS-R9G, using the included GPS locator, will alert you as you approach these cameras. This database will be constantly updated as new cameras are installed, and you can update your R9G through the Cobra web site. The Cobra XRS-R9G also allows you to mark up to 1000 of your own locations, which is great for marking common speedtrap locations.

The Cobra XRSR9G offers a truly innovative design. The unit includes three parts: the actual radar detector which should be mounted by the rearview mirror, the GPS locator which mounts beside the detector, and a wireless display/control panel which can be mounted anywhere within the vehicle. This design offers the driver a great combination: a discrete mounting location and easy access to controls!

The radar detecting unit of the Cobra XRS R9G has a simple, rectangular shape with no display and only one button (power). The GPS locator connects to this unit and mounts beside it. These units should be mounted high on the windshield by the rearview mirror. Both a hard-wire kit and an extra long straight power cord are included. These accessories are designed to allow you to route the power cable in a discrete way so that it stays out of sight.

The XRS-R9G is controlled using a small control panel, called the remote display unit (RDU). The RDU includes the XRSR9G's full color graphical display, which is easy to see both day and night. It also provides access to functions such as the volume control, options menu, mute function, and more. This control panel is wireless and operates using a rechargeable lithium battery. A holster is included for mounting the RDU, and includes attachments for clipping the unit on a visor or an air vent. On a full charge, the RDU will last 40 in standard mode, 8 hours with the screen in "always on" mode.

The Cobra XRS-R9G 12 band™ radar detector features Cobra's Xtreme Range Superheterodyne™ Technology, which provides more range than past Cobra models. In addition, the Cobra R9G provides speed alerts, a digital compass, current speed display, voice alerts and an intuitive IntelliMute™ feature which will automatically mute the detector based on your speed. This model will also detect POP radar, and even has built-in support for the Ku band which is currently used in Europe.

The Cobra XRS-R9G responds to all types of radar currently in use by police, and provides 360 degree detection of all types of laser guns laser. The XRS-R9G also provides detailed messages from Cobra's exclusive Safety Alert® and Strobe Alert warning systems. The Cobra XRS-R9G is immune to the VG-2 radar detector detector, and provides alerts when VG-2 is in use.
